OLIGHT ODIN GL Light / Laser Torch 1,500 Lumens

The Olight Odin GL combines two light sources in one long-gun weapon light: a neutral white high-performance LED with up to 1,500 lumens and 215 m beam distance, plus a green laser beam (Olight: “GL Beam”) as an aiming aid. Listed here is the M-LOK version Odin GL M with 21700 battery (5,000 mAh), MCC3 magnetic charging and two-button remote switch – intended for rifles and semi-automatic rifles with an M-LOK handguard.

Two light sources, one selector ring

A selector ring with three positions sits on the head: white light only, green beam only, or both combined. This lets you use the white light for target identification and add the laser for the shot without lowering the firearm. According to Olight, the laser operates at 510–530 nm with a maximum of 5 mW (“GL Beam Emitter <5mW”), laser Class 3R/IIIa to IEC 60825-1; Olight states a focal distance of 20 m and up to 90 hours of runtime in laser-only mode.

The white light reaches 11,556 cd; under ANSI FL1 this gives the beam distance of 215 m – the distance at which 0.25 lux still arrives, roughly full-moon brightness. The Low level with 300 lumens reaches 95 m and causes less glare at close range.

Operation: tail-cap switch and remote switch

The tail-cap switch is two-stage: a light press switches to Low, a firm press to High; a click switches on constantly, holding gives momentary light (Olight: quiet metal tail switch). For mounted use, the magnetic sROD-7 remote switch is included: it attaches to the tail cap, is secured with a locking ring and calls up the high or low level directly with two buttons (HI/LO). Detached, the Odin GL M serves as a handheld torch.

Battery, charging and runtime

Power comes from an Olight proprietary 21700 battery with 5,000 mAh and 3.6 V, replaceable via the tail cap. Charging takes place in the light: the magnetic MCC3 cable attaches to the tail cap, charges at up to 2 A and, according to Olight, takes around 5.5 hours (guide value on a 5 V/2 A source). According to the manual, the light holds 1,500 lumens for 60 seconds and then steps down to 550 lumens within 90 seconds – hence the figure “2.5 + 168 + 20 min”. A vibration alert reports the battery level: below 20 % every five minutes, below 10 % every minute, below 5 % every ten seconds.

M-LOK mounting with rotary lock

The supplied mount has two M-LOK inserts and is fastened to the handguard with nuts and screws (H3.0). The light slides into the mount’s rail, clicks audibly into place and is locked with a rotary knob turned through 90°; two clamping screws (H1.5) secure it additionally. To remove, loosen the clamping screws, turn the knob back and press it. According to Olight, the Picatinny mount of the Odin GL P and the Pic Rail Adapter are not compatible with the Odin GL M, because changing the mount affects the laser alignment.

Odin GL or Odin GL Mini?

The Olight Odin GL Mini is the compact sibling: 128 instead of 149 mm, 190 instead of 224 g, 1,000 instead of 1,500 lumens, 180 instead of 215 m and an 18500 battery with 2,040 mAh – the Low runtime drops from 6 h 30 min to 3 h 35 min. The deciding factor is the interface: the GL Mini comes from the factory with a Picatinny mount, the Odin GL M with M-LOK. A white light without laser is the Olight Odin Mini (1,250 lm, 240 m, M-LOK, IPX8). According to Olight, the Pic Rail Adapter for the Odin series fits the Odin Mini and Odin GL Mini, not the Odin GL M.

The Odin GL M is designed for M-LOK interfaces; Olight advises against mounting it on Picatinny rails, because the GL beam cannot then be aligned correctly. Before buying and using, observe the firearms regulations of your country.

Frequently asked questions about the Olight Odin GL

Can I operate the Odin GL without the remote switch?

Yes. The tail-cap switch offers all functions: press lightly for Low, press firmly for High, click for constant-on, hold for momentary light.

Does the remote switch only operate one level?

No. The sROD-7 has two buttons: HI for 1,500 lumens, LO for 300 lumens, each as constant-on or momentary light. You add the laser via the selector ring.

How long are the 1,500 lumens available?

According to Olight, 60 seconds; the light then steps down within 90 seconds to 550 lumens, which it holds for 168 minutes according to the table.

Can I replace the battery or charge it externally?

The 21700 battery is replaceable; according to Olight, charging is only done in the light via the MCC3 cable; other MCC cables are not compatible.

How robust is the Odin GL against water and drops?

IPX4 means protection against splashing water, not submersion; impact resistance is 1.5 m. The magnetic tail cap attracts iron filings – keep it clean.

Does the Pic Rail Adapter fit for switching to Picatinny?

Not according to Olight: the adapter is not compatible with the Odin GL M, because changing the mount affects the laser alignment. For Picatinny there is the Odin GL P.
