Olight Marauder Mini 2 – compact power torch 10,000 lumens

The Olight Marauder Mini 2 is a searchlight in the format of a large hand-held torch: 133 mm long, 66 mm head diameter, 465 g with battery. According to Olight it delivers up to 10,000 lumens of floodlight or a spot with 750 m beam distance and 140,000 cd – or both at once if you wish. Added to this are red light for night vision and a side light that serves as a work light. Power comes from a replaceable 32650 battery with 7,500 mAh, charged via USB-C or magnetically (MCC). It is intended for hunters, search and rescue teams and security services. Flunatec stocks it in Black or OD Green.

Application profile and construction: a one-handed searchlight

Marauder is the name Olight gives to its range of most powerful hand-held torches; the Mini 2 is its most compact member. The body measures 43 mm in diameter and carries a textured silicone zone for a secure grip with gloves or wet hands. The housing made of A6061-T6 aluminium alloy is waterproof to IPX8 (according to Olight at least 30 minutes at a depth of more than 1 m) and, according to the manual, impact resistant to 1 m. Olight specifies an operating temperature of 0 to 40 °C – so during a winter sit in the high seat you are better off carrying the torch close to your body.

The head houses several floodlight LEDs arranged around a central spot LED; as optics Olight lists a condenser lens and TIR lenses, and according to the manual both white light sources are cool white with 6,500 K and CRI 70. The side light is a separate LED in the torch body, while the red LEDs sit in the head. In practice this means: the floodlight illuminates a slope up to around 270 m, the spot reaches a point 750 m away, and at the campsite the torch serves as a lantern. A plastic protective case is included for transport.

Floodlight, spot and combination: the triple control

Three controls each have one job. The light source selector switch determines whether the side light, white light or red light is active. The mode toggle switch chooses between floodlight, spot and the combination when white light is selected. The rotary knob with push button switches on and off and regulates brightness: clockwise for brighter, anticlockwise for dimmer down to Moonlight mode. With rotary unlocking, a double click jumps to maximum, and pressing and holding for one to two seconds enters Moonlight mode. LEDs around the knob show the brightness level (L1 to L4) and battery status. The white light modes each have eight levels plus Moonlight, red and side light each have four plus Moonlight. Strobe can only be called up in white floodlight by pressing quickly three times.

An automatic lockout ten seconds after switching off protects against unintentional activation. As delivered, you unlock by turning the knob more than 60°; alternatively you can switch to press-and-hold for longer than 1 second (torch on and connected to the charging cable, spot mode, press the button 15 times quickly). The manual and product page do not list a proximity sensor as on the Warrior 3S – here the lockout and time-controlled step-down take care of safety.

Battery, charging, runtime and thermal management

Power comes from a customised lithium-ion battery in 32650 format with 3.7 V, 7,500 mAh and 27.75 Wh. It sits behind the screw-off tail cap and, according to the Olight FAQ, is interchangeable with the 6,500 mAh battery of the first Marauder Mini; with the smaller battery, however, the Mini 2 only reaches just over 8,000 lumens. Charging is via the covered USB-C port at the base of the torch or via the magnetic charging contact for the MCC3 cable. The wrist strap cable (USB-C, 0.4 m) charges fully at 5 V and 2.5 A in around 3.5 hours; the optional MCC3 cable takes about 6.5 hours according to the manual and is not included. There is no power bank function. The battery indicator shows green for at least 75, 50, 25 or 10 %, red for below 10 %.

When it comes to runtimes you need to separate two things. According to Olight, the torch holds 10,000 lumens for two minutes, then steps down to 2,500 lumens and runs for a further 90 minutes at that level – there is no other way to dissipate this much light from a 465 g housing. Turbo is a brief look across the terrain; you work in L3-2 (2,500 lumens, 30 minutes at full output) or L3-1 (1,200 lumens, three hours). At the other end is the side light in Moonlight mode with 0.5 lumens and 150 days. Anyone using medium floodlight brightness for 30 minutes a day gets around 20 days without charging according to Olight; in cold or heat the runtimes shift.

Who the Marauder Mini 2 is suitable for – and who it is not

When hunting, the torch shows its strength after the shot: with the floodlight you illuminate the shot site over a wide area, with the spot you check the opposite edge of the wood, and the combination delivers up to 8,000 lumens for tracking wounded game. The red light with up to 400 lumens helps when sorting equipment without losing your dark adaptation. For search and rescue or patrolling the hunting ground, range is what counts: 140,000 cd are enough to still make out contours at 750 m.

As an everyday torch for the trouser pocket, the Marauder Mini 2 is too big and too heavy – that is what the Seeker, Warrior or Baton are for. Anyone mainly looking for a tent lantern is better served by a camping lantern.

Marauder Mini 2 or Seeker 4 Pro?

The Olight Seeker 4 Pro is just as long at 133 mm, but with a 35 mm head, 28 mm body and 205 g it is a belt torch: according to Olight up to 4,600 lumens and 260 m at 16,895 cd from a 21700 battery with 5,000 mAh, rotary switch, charging via USB-C in the holster or MCC3. The Marauder Mini 2 plays in a class above: more than double the output, almost three times the beam distance, a good eight times the beam intensity – at more than double the weight. In short: Seeker 4 Pro for everyday use and stalking, Marauder Mini 2 for tracking wounded game and searching over long distances. The Olight Warrior 3S is the tactical alternative with 2,300 lumens, 300 m, 23,000 cd, 176 g, side and tail switch plus proximity sensor.

Compared with the first Marauder Mini (7,000 lumens, 600 m, 6,500 mAh, MCC only, 130 mm, 462 g), the Mini 2 according to Olight brings 10,000 lumens, 750 m, 7,500 mAh, additional USB-C, the combination mode, twice as strong a red light (400 instead of 200 lumens) and the side light; green and blue light are dropped. The large Marauder 2 remains the flagship with 14,000 lumens and 800 m, but weighs 750 g, measures 140 mm with a 79 mm head, uses three batteries of 5,000 mAh each and charges via USB-C only.

Frequently asked questions about the Olight Marauder Mini 2

Can I replace the battery, and does the battery of the first Marauder Mini fit?

Yes. The 32650 battery sits behind the screw-off tail cap. According to Olight, the 7,500 mAh battery of the Mini 2 and the 6,500 mAh battery of the first Marauder Mini are interchangeable; with the smaller battery, however, the Mini 2 only reaches just over 8,000 lumens.

How long does the torch really run at 10,000 lumens, and does it get hot?

Two minutes according to Olight, after which it steps down to 2,500 lumens and holds that for 90 minutes. The head becomes noticeably warm at high levels; for longer work, L3-2 (2,500 lumens, 30 minutes at full output) or L3-1 (1,200 lumens, three hours) are suitable.

How does the lockout work, and how do I unlock?

Ten seconds after switching off, the rotary knob locks automatically. As delivered, you unlock by turning it more than 60°; alternatively you can switch to press-and-hold for longer than 1 second. Olight does not describe a manual lockout.

Can I charge my phone with the Marauder Mini 2?

No. According to the Olight FAQ, the USB-C port does not output any power; it is only used to charge the torch.

Does charging speed up if I connect USB-C and MCC at the same time?

No. USB-C takes priority, the charging time stays the same, and Olight advises against connecting both at once.

Is the torch waterproof and impact resistant?

Olight specifies IPX8 (at least 30 minutes at a depth of more than 1 m) and, according to the manual, 1 m impact resistance. The USB-C port sits under a cover.

What distinguishes the Marauder Mini 2 from the first Marauder Mini?
