OLIGHT PL-3 R Valkyrie Tactical Light with 1,500 Lumens

The Olight PL-3R Valkyrie is a rechargeable pistol light for Glock and Picatinny rails with up to 1,500 lumens, 10,200 candela and a 205-metre beam distance. The 900 mAh battery is built in and is charged via Olight’s magnetic MCC cable in around 80 minutes. It is aimed at sport shooters, hunters carrying a handgun and professional users who want a bright flood light without battery changes – with a High level that can be reprogrammed between 1,500 and 1,000 lumens.

Design and intended use

At 81 mm long, 36.6 mm wide and 107 g including the battery, the PL-3R remains compact enough for handguns, but according to Olight also fits long guns with a Picatinny rail. The body is made of aluminium alloy; IPX6 stands for protection against powerful water jets, not for submersion. The manual rates impact resistance at 1 m, and the Olight blog additionally cites recoil resistance of up to 50 joules. The PL-3R is a flood light: 1,500 lumens at only 10,200 candela produce a wide cone with plenty of spill light for room distances and the shooting range.

Light and operation

Two rear switches on the left and right are equally easy to reach for right- and left-handers. A short press switches constant-on or off, holding gives momentary light, a double-click toggles between Low (300 lm) and High; both switches together start the strobe at 13 Hz. The High level is programmable – 1,500 lm or 1,000 lm, handy when bright walls indoors reflect too much glare. A button lock prevents switching on in the holster; when locked, around 100 lumens of momentary light remain. The LED is cool white at 5,700 K with CRI 70.

Battery, charging and runtime

The built-in lithium-polymer battery has 900 mAh at 3.7 V (3.3 Wh). Charging is via the magnetic MCC-1A connector at the rear: bring the cable up to it and it docks by itself; the indicator lights red while charging and green when the battery is full. Olight specifies USB-A with 5 V / 1 A as the input, around 80 minutes charging time and a 0.5 m cable length; the same magnetic port optionally accepts the sRPL-7 remote cable switch. Runtimes are stepped: in High 1, the PL-3R holds a full 1,500 lumens for 2 minutes, then steps down to 600 lumens for 36 minutes and finally to 300 lumens for 8.5 minutes; in Low mode, 300 lumens last for 100 minutes.

Mounting and rail compatibility

The clamp is secured by a locking screw that you tighten with the supplied key (H2.5 / H1.5); Olight relies on this screw lock so that the light does not shift even during rapid strings of fire. A movable key block adapts the position to different rail slot spacings. According to Olight, rail inserts for Glock and Picatinny (MIL-STD-1913) are included as standard; the packing list shows the 1913 adapter with screw separately.

Brightness levels and runtimes

PL-3R Valkyrie or Valkyrie Turbo?

Both sit on the same rails but follow opposite concepts. The PL-3R floods its surroundings with 1,500 lumens and 10,200 candela and is charged via a magnetic cable. The Olight Valkyrie Turbo relies on an LEP source: only 250 lumens, but 70,225 candela and 530 m as a tight spot from two CR123A. Rooms and short distances: PL-3R; identification at long range: Turbo. According to the Olight FAQ, the PL-3R is the rechargeable version of the PL-3 (1,300 lm, 225 m, two CR123A) with around 15% more output but a slightly shorter beam distance, because the LED and circuit board focus differently. Can I replace the battery of the PL-3R myself?

No, the 900 mAh battery is built in and is only charged via the magnetic MCC connector. If you prefer swapping batteries to charging: PL-3 or Valkyrie Turbo, each with two CR123A.

How do I know the battery is full?

The indicator lights red during charging and changes to green as soon as the battery is full – according to Olight, after around 80 minutes on USB-A with 5 V / 1 A.

How do I switch the high level between 1,500 and 1,000 lumens?

With the light switched off, click one button quickly more than ten times and hold the last press for longer than one second. Two flashes mean High 1 (1,500 lm), one flash means High 2 (1,000 lm).

How do I activate the button lock?

From the off state, hold one button for about half a second, add the second one and keep both pressed for around two seconds until the light goes out. To unlock: hold both buttons for more than two seconds.

Does the PL-3R also fit a long gun?

Yes, on Picatinny rails (MIL-STD-1913). For operation at the fore-end, the magnetic port accepts the optional sRPL-7 remote cable switch (not included).

What warranty does Olight state for the PL-3R?

According to the manual: 30 days repair or replacement via the seller, 2 years via Olight, one year for the charging cable – excluding wear, modifications, misuse, disassembly, negligence, accidents, improper maintenance and third-party repairs.
