OLIGHT Baldr RL Mini Tactical Light / Red Laser, 600 Lumens, Rechargeable

The Olight Baldr RL Mini is the red-laser variant of the Baldr Mini: a light/laser module just 57 mm long and 91 g light for compact and subcompact pistols with a Glock or Picatinny rail. According to Olight, the white LED delivers 600 lumens with a 130 m beam distance and 4,225 cd, while the red laser operates at 640–660 nm with a maximum of 5 mW (Class 3R according to IEC 60825-1). A built-in 3.7 V / 230 mAh battery is charged via a special magnetic MCC cable in no more than one hour.

Compact build for small pistols

At 57 × 32.8 × 35.8 mm, Olight places the module in the “car key / Zippo lighter” size class. The aluminium alloy body is hard-anodised, IPX4 covers splashing water, and impact resistance is rated at 1 m. What matters for short frames is the sliding rail mount: the module can be slid forwards and backwards and fixed where the switch and trigger finger line up. Compared with the green Baldr Mini, Olight has introduced an additional grub screw at the rail junction that stiffens the sliding rail.

600 lumens, red laser and three-position switch

A slide switch determines what happens when you press: left for red laser only, centre for laser plus white light, right for white light only. The two rear switches respond only to downward pressure – pressing from the side or the front does not switch anything. A short click means constant-on, holding means momentary light. There is no second brightness level and no strobe.

According to Olight, the LED holds 600 lumens for one minute, then steps down to 100 lumens within two minutes to limit heat. For distances indoors or on the handgun range, 130 m beam distance and 4,225 cd are sufficient. The red laser alone runs for up to 11 hours – according to Olight, 8.5 hours longer than the green laser of the Baldr Mini.

230 mAh battery: putting runtime into perspective

The small lithium-polymer battery is designed for short deployments: 1 minute at 600 lumens plus 37 minutes at 100 lumens with the laser, 1 + 39 minutes without the laser. Charging is via the magnetic port with the supplied special MCC cable; according to Olight, other MCC cables are not compatible. From a USB source with 5 V / 0.35 A, a full charge takes no more than one hour. A red indicator on the body signals less than 10% remaining capacity, and the cable LED changes from red to green when fully charged.

Baldr RL Mini or Baldr Mini?

Both share the same body, LED, battery and mounting. The Olight Baldr Mini relies on a green laser at 510–530 nm, which is more conspicuous in daylight but draws more power: 1 + 29 instead of 1 + 37 minutes of white light with the laser, and 2.5 instead of 11 hours on its own. At 91 g, the RL Mini is four grams heavier and has the additional rail screw. If you want considerably more light, you end up with the Baldr Pro R with 1,350 lumens, 200 m and a 1,000 mAh battery – at 95 mm in length and 126 g.

Mounting and legal notice

Open the swing arm, slide the rail mount into position and tighten the two screws with the hex key. Then place the pre-installed Glock adapter – or the previously fitted Picatinny adapter – in the rail slot and close the arm. The laser is zeroed via the adjustment screws on the side. According to Olight, the laser and white light must never be pointed at eyes, nor at vehicles or aircraft at any distance. Before buying and using, observe the firearms regulations of your country.

Frequently asked questions about the Olight Baldr RL Mini

Why does the brightness drop noticeably after one minute?

That is by design: according to Olight, the LED holds 600 lumens for one minute and then steps down to 100 lumens within two minutes to limit heat in the small body.

Can I charge the RL Mini with the MCC cable of my Olight torch?

No. Olight states that the Baldr RL Mini can only be charged with the supplied special MCC cable and that other MCC cables are not compatible.

What do “640–660 nm” and “Class 3R” mean for the laser?

The wavelength of 640 to 660 nanometres lies in the red range of visible light. “Class 3R” is the classification according to the IEC 60825-1 standard that Olight specifies for this laser with a maximum of 5 mW.

How do I adjust the laser, and what if a screw gets lost?

There are two adjustment screws on the side of the body, which you turn with the supplied hex key. Olight includes a spare set: the set screw with the cone point adjusts elevation, the one with the oval point adjusts windage.

Why does the light not come on when I press the switch from the side?

According to Olight, the rear switches only trigger with downward pressure. Pressing from the side or the front is deliberately ineffective so that the module does not switch on accidentally in the holster.

How do I store and transport the module correctly?

Olight advises fully charging the battery before longer storage, setting the slide switch to “laser only” for transport and storage, and keeping the charging port and lens clean.
