Osight R Red Dot Sight – Enclosed, 2 MOA Dot / 65 MOA Circle, Micro T1/T2

The Osight R is the first red dot sight from Osight developed specifically for rifles: an enclosed-emitter sight with a 28 × 22 mm window, a reticle selectable from 2 MOA dot and 65 MOA circle, twelve brightness settings including a night vision mode and the widely used Micro T1/T2 footprint. It is intended for short to medium distances – sport shooting and competition, training, hunting and duty use. Market launch according to Osight: September 2026.

Construction and intended use

The housing is made of CNC-machined 7075-T6 aluminium and fully encloses the emitter – rain, snow, dust and powder residue cannot reach the light source. Osight rates the waterproofing at IPX8 (1 m, FL1 standard) and the vibration resistance at 1000 G; the operating temperature range extends from −30 °C to +60 °C. At 69 × 36 × 64 mm and 190 g including the standard mount and battery, the sight remains compact enough for short barrels and sporting carbines.

Both lenses are protected against scratches and impacts by removable protective lens covers made of glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide. The front cover can be swapped for the supplied ARD (Anti-Reflective Device, honeycomb filter), which reduces reflections and glare on the objective lens – as useful in competition under a low sun as it is from the high seat.

Window, reticle and operation

The window measures 28 × 22 mm (1.10 × 0.87 in) and is multi-coated. With 1× magnification, a parallax-free design and unlimited eye relief, the dot sits where the barrel is pointing – even if your head and stance are not perfectly behind the optic. The red reticle (650 nm) can be switched between three configurations: 2 MOA dot for the precise shot, 65 MOA circle for fast aiming at short distance, or dot + circle combined. The factory setting is dot + circle; you switch by holding the “−” button for two seconds.

You adjust the brightness in twelve settings: settings 1 to 3 are designed for night vision devices, settings 4 to 12 for daytime. The dedicated NV button switches directly between day and night mode with a one-second press, without cycling through all the settings; both modes remember their last-used setting. Elevation and windage adjustment work at 0.5 MOA per click and, according to Osight, offer an adjustment range of ± 50 MOA.

Motion sensor and memory function

Motion Activation Technology (MAT) is active from the factory: the Osight R switches on at the first movement and off again after three minutes without motion. On switching on, brightness, reticle selection and sensor state are ready just as they were when last switched off. If you do not want the sensor, deactivate it by double-clicking and holding the “−” button; the reticle confirms with a single flash (on) or a double flash (off).

Power supply and battery replacement

A standard CR2032 coin cell (3 V, included) powers the sight. For setting 5, Osight quotes up to 83,000 hours with the 2 MOA dot, 18,000 hours with the 65 MOA circle and 15,000 hours with dot + circle. If the voltage drops below 2.2 V, the reticle flashes three times once per minute as a reminder to replace the battery. The cell sits in a battery tray secured with M3 screws; the matching tool is included, and the torque is a maximum of 12 in-lbs (around 1.4 Nm).

Mounting: Micro T1/T2 footprint and optical centre heights

The Osight R uses the four-screw Micro T1/T2 footprint and therefore fits a wide range of existing mounts. The box contains the ORS-153 Picatinny mount with a 1.535 in (around 39 mm) optical centre height for Lower-1/3 Co-Witness with standard sights on AR platforms. As options, Osight offers the ORL-121 mount (1.21 in, around 31 mm) for a low sight line and the ORH-193 (1.93 in, around 49 mm) for a more upright head position. Osight specifies that the M5 screw of the ORS-153 be fitted with medium-strength (blue) threadlocker and tightened to 43 in-lbs (around 4.9 Nm); the M3 screws of the footprint to 12 in-lbs.

Osight R or Osight XR / XE?

The Osight XR and the Osight XE AMRS are enclosed pistol sights with an RMR footprint and a compact window – built for the slide of a handgun. The Osight R is the same brand’s long-gun solution: a much larger window (28 × 22 mm), Micro T1/T2 footprint with a Picatinny mount included, 65 MOA circle for fast target acquisition at short distance, NV button and protective lens covers with ARD. For AR-15 sporting carbines, bolt-action rifles with a Picatinny rail or shotguns with a rail, the R is the right choice; on a pistol, the XR and XE remain the choice.

Frequently asked questions about the Osight R

Which firearms is the Osight R intended for?

For long guns with a Picatinny rail at short to medium distances – sporting carbines such as the AR-15, bolt-action rifles and shotguns with a rail. Osight lists competition, training, hunting, self-defence and duty use as fields of application.

Does the Osight R fit existing Micro T1/T2 mounts?

Yes. The sight uses the four-screw Micro T1/T2 footprint. In addition to the supplied ORS-153, Osight offers the ORL-121 (1.21 in) and ORH-193 (1.93 in) mounts; according to Osight, mounts from other manufacturers with this footprint can also be used.

What optical centre height does the supplied mount have?

The ORS-153 places the optical axis 1.535 in (around 39 mm) above the rail – the common Lower-1/3 Co-Witness height, at which the standard sights remain visible in the lower third of the window.

How do I switch between dot, circle and dot + circle?

With the optic switched on, hold the “−” button for longer than two seconds; the reticle then cycles every second between 2 MOA dot, dot + circle and 65 MOA circle. The selected configuration remains stored after switching off.

How long does the battery last?

For setting 5, Osight quotes up to 83,000 hours with the 2 MOA dot, 18,000 hours with the 65 MOA circle and 15,000 hours with dot + circle. Can the Osight R be used with night vision devices?

What is the ARD and when do I use it?

The ARD (Anti-Reflective Device) is a honeycomb filter that is fitted in place of the front protective lens cover. It reduces reflections and glare on the objective lens and continues to protect the lens from dirt and impacts – useful under a low sun, under floodlights or when the objective lens must not give off reflections.

Which torque values apply when mounting?

Osight specifies 43 in-lbs (around 4.9 Nm) with medium-strength threadlocker for the M5 screw of the ORS-153, and 12 in-lbs (around 1.4 Nm) for the M3 screws of the footprint and the battery tray. Details are given on the enclosed mounting card.
